First-Year Room Assignment
Already thinking about your room assignment?
Please visit the Housing website for more information and to apply today!
Preferences for particular housing spaces will be based on the date of your housing application, which is due in May 1st, 2016. Please note, you must submit your SIR before submitting your housing application. The earlier you apply, the better! Room assignments and roommate matching will be based on the information you provide on your Housing Application and Personal History Form.
After you apply for housing, keep an eye on your UC San Diego email; you will receive an email with instructions for your Housing Contract and prepayment. Your Signed Housing Contract and $450 prepayment are due May 31st, 2016, in order to live on campus for the 2016-17 academic year and to maintain your 2-year housing guarantee.
The majority of first year students will be assigned to triple rooms with two other roommates. Depending on your housing application date, you may be assigned to another College if that is required because of housing space availability at Muir.
If you are attending Orientation in June, we will have the opportunity to talk about the room and roommate assignment process. While we cannot guarantee any particular room or roommate assignment, we work very hard to satisfy and accommodate your needs and your requests. You can let us know your preferences on the personal history form, which comes with your housing contract. Any roommate request must be mutual and we will not house two individuals requesting to live with each other with a third unknown roommate. So, it is best to request two additional roommates! The majority of first year students will be assigned to triples with two other roommates. All students in these requests must be registered as Muir College students, as we cannot house students from other Colleges. We make room assignments in August and you will be notified of your room assignment on-line by the end of August.
Should you need a particular housing accommodation based on a medical condition, please contact the Office of Students with Disabilities at 858-534-4382 as quickly as possible, so we have time to prepare your accommodation for your arrival on campus in the Fall.
You will receive notification of your room and roommate assignment by email to your UC San Diego email address at the end of August. Please feel free to call the Muir Residential Life Office at 858-534-4200 with any questions you may have. Always remember to check the Housing website as well, for updated information and deadlines.
